Student Tellers

Six students from Berne/Knox/Westerlo Elementary School will tell stories of the Underground Railroad and fugitive slaves in New York State at Story Walk!. Telling will be Eric Collins, Kyle Davis, Alex Luciano, Makayla McCormick, Jessica Sawyer, and Kasey Wagoner. The fifth grade students, who belong to an after-school history club, have been researching area households that kept slaves. Their storyteller and coach is Nancy Marie Payne. Their teacher is Mary Elizabeth Stewart, and the Club Collaborator is Lewis Ismay.

Also performing at Story Walk! are members of the CASST (Connections After School Storytelling Troupe) from Maple Hill Middle School in Schodack. The troupe, in existence now for four years, includes 7th grade Connections class members Joe Chipman, Drew Donnelly, Aaron Herr, Jeff Wagner, Emily Bonin, Kay Zink, Steph Muller, Camille Danciu, Rachelle Hensinger, Zach Hays, Sarah Walling, Charlie Pomykaj, Mary Hadden, Shauna Benoit, and Dennis Strainge. Sean Purdy, 8th grader from last year's CASST will serve as an assistant storytelling coach as well as teller. The students' storyteller and coach is Mary Murphy. The Connections Class Teachers are Marilyn Michaels and Christine Fowler.Also assisting is Darlene Miller of the Castleton Public Library. Story Walk! is an event at the New York State Museum for area third graders.
